In Alabama there’s a lady by the lake
Dressed in Weeping Willows and moss on her face
She screams in the light of the pouring rain
And in the bottom of the bayou she says
Come to me children come to me sweetly
Come to me ladies and hear my song
Pray for your men in the far away lands
The river is rising up
Here comes the rushing water
Here comes the rising sun
Here comes the roaring wind to bring you back home
Sun down some relief in the chill of the night your soul to keep cause
Sun up it’s time to go gotta move those bloody boots on down the road
Choking on the dust kicked up from below
Ahead in the distance the thunder rolls
Back home in the shanty lying in her sweat
Baby at her feet no breeze for her breast
Here comes the rushing water
Here comes the rising sun
Here comes the roaring wind to bring you back home
Way down in the bottom of the lake
Rising from the mud calm and steady face
Eyes softly shut, foam swirls around, wind picks up heaving from the ground
Her forehead breaks the water under Willow trees
Hair a striking silver, glow of erie green
She turns to the east and opens her eyes
A pale sort of gray now, hands to the sky
She’s pulling down the rain clouds, waving in the wind
All around the water rise to clean the sin
Mama’s still praying down on her knees
They’ll never hear it coming
Eyes will never see
Here comes the rushing water
Here comes the rising sun
Here comes the roaring wind to bring you back home
